Shrek Card Match
About the Game
Shrek Card Match takes you into the world of the 2001 American computer-animated fantasy movie. This production loosely follows the 1990 fairy tale picture book by William Steig. Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson directed this debut project. The movie features the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow. It functions as a parody of various children's fantasy stories, especially those from Disney. The story centers on an ogre named Shrek, voiced by Myers. He discovers that his swamp is filled with fairy tale creatures. These beings were sent there by the mean Lord Farquaad, who is voiced by Lithgow. Shrek wants his swamp back. He makes a bargain with Farquaad to find a queen. In return, Farquaad will give him the deed to his land. Shrek begins his journey with a talking Donkey, voiced by Murphy. They eventually meet Princess Fiona, voiced by Diaz. While they transport Fiona to Farquaad for a wedding, Shrek begins to feel love for the princess. He soon learns a surprising secret about her. Steven Spielberg first purchased the rights to the book in 1991. He initially wanted to create a traditionally animated movie. John H. Williams persuaded him to move the project to DreamWorks in 1994. This happened when the studio first opened. Jeffrey Katzenberg started active development on the movie in 1995 after the studio bought the rights. Chris Farley was the first choice to voice the main character. He recorded between 80% and 90% of his lines. Following his death in 1997, Mike Myers took over the role. After his first recording session, Myers chose to give the character a Scottish accent. The studio originally intended to use motion-capture technology. Because the results were not good, they hired Pacific Data Images to create the final computer-animated appearance for Shrek. Shrek established DreamWorks Animation as a major rival to Pixar in the world of feature film animation. The movie earned $484.4 million globally against a $60 million budget. Critics praised it as a film for adults and kids alike. It contained mature jokes and themes but kept a simple plot for children. Shrek received the first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. It also received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. The movie earned six British Academy of Film and Television Arts nominations. Eddie Murphy received a BAFTA nomination for his role as Donkey. The film also won a BAFTA for Best Adapted Screenplay. This success led DreamWorks to produce three sequels titled Shrek 2, Shrek the Third, and Shrek Forever After. They also made two holiday specials called Shrek the Halls and Scared Shrekless. A spin-off movie named Puss in Boots appeared in 2011. A fifth movie was planned to end the series but got cancelled in 2009. They announced the fourth film would be the final one. However, the fifth film returned in 2016 with a planned release for 2019 or 2020. The movie inspired many products including video games, a musical on stage, and a comic book by Dark Horse Comics. The main character even received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in May 2010.
